Rama and Vinayaka

Updated: May 1, 2022

Before killing Ravana, Sri Rama worshipped the Nine Planets or the Nava Grahas in Nava Baashanam(a village near Ramanathapuram, Tamilnadu) to construct the bridge to Lanka without any obstacles. Even now, some people visit Nava Bhashanam during their Ramesvaram tour.

The first place that has to be visited during Ramesvaram tour is Uppur, near Nava Bhashanam. It was the place where Lord Rama worshipped Lord Vinayaka. He doesn't let anything to be built above him. He blesses everyone but doesn't have a roof for himself. Yes, he absorbs most of the sun's heat and is named 'Veyil Ugandha Vinayakar'(வெயிலுகந்த விநாயகர்).

Another place where Lord Rama worshipped Lord Vinayaka is Thondi. This is the place where Lord Rama thought of constructing a bridge to Lanka. Vinyaka, pleased with Rama's worship, appeared before him and suggested, not to construct the bridge in Thondi and advised him to go more Southwards and construct it to make the work more easier and also told him that his victory was for sure.
